THE BIODYNAMICS OF LIVING AND DYING
NEAR GOTHENBURG, SWEDEN

This four-day seminar for Craniosacral practitioners will explore clinical skills to help with life transitions, grieving and letting go. We will develop skills to work with the elderly and chronically ill, and find ways to support the process of dying as well as those who are left behind. This workshop will provide practitioners the opportunity to gain confidence and develop life-enhancing skills to support clients at these critical times.
Topics covered will include:
* End of life care: chronic illness, palliative care
* The stages of death and dying – the work of Elizabeth Kübler Ross, Tibetan perspectives
* Completing unfinished business – reducing fear, fulfilling wishes, creating a will for dying
* Facing death and appreciating life
* Death as an ignition process – orienting to the heart, long tide and love; love breathing us
* Deconstruction of a solid self – exploring the interchange between the fluid body, tidal body and dynamic stillness
* The wholistic shift, stillpoints and letting go
* Developing transparency to the motion of creation
* Going out with the Tide – entering the void
* Working with the “silent partner’ and another pair of hands
* Bereavement and grief – revisiting the 3rd ventricle
* The ‘Bardos’ and ritual practices
* Supporting the function of the vagus nerve
* Finding meaning in the face of adversity.
Course tutor:
Michael Kern B.C.S.T., D.O., A.B.D., N.D. – Michael is a Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist and Naturopath with a practice in London. He has been teaching Craniosacral Therapy for 35 years and is a leading international exponent of the biodynamic approach, currently running courses in the United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Denmark, Poland, Sweden, China, Italy and Russia. He graduated from the College of Osteopaths in 1987 and is founder of the Craniosacral Therapy Educational Trust in London. He was a senior tutor for the College of Osteopaths, International Cranial Association, Centre for Professional Development in Osteopathy and University of Westminster. He is also author of the visionary book ‘Wisdom In The Body – The Craniosacral Approach To Essential Health’, now in its third edition and translated into eleven languages.

THE LIVING MATRIX
IN WARSAW, POLAND

Dr. Still, the founder of Osteopathy, wrote, “The soul of man, with all the streams of pure living water, seems to dwell in the fascia of his body”. Recent scientific findings show that rather than simply being a connecting and enveloping tissue, fascia is a ‘liquid crystalline matrix’ that acts as a communication system for the whole body. Fascia is highly innervated with specialized sensory nerves that relay information to the central nervous system and help regulate body physiology. It also plays a central role in the bio-tensegrity of the body. During this workshop, we will explore the new science of fascia and apply this knowledge with Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy hands-on treatment skills.
Topics covered include:
- fascial cells and the living matrix
- superficial fascia and deep fascia
- the role of myofibroblasts in fascia
- fascia as an important part of the nervous system
- the sensory nerves in fascia that respond to soft touch
- fascia as a piezo-electric, electromagnetic and light-based communication system
- tensegrity and biotensegrity
- fascial hydration and reciprocal tension
- synchronizing fascia to primary respiration
- the psoas fascia and its interconnections to the kidneys, diaphragm, bladder and pelvic organs
- the role of thoracolumbar fascia in lower back pain
- working with the midline function in long bones: “power points”
- fascial connections between the sphenoid and heart.

The biodynamic model of Craniosacral Therapy is based on an understanding of the forces of creation. In the human embryo these forces organize the movements that take place during our growth and development, and carry an essential ordering matrix into the body that acts as a blueprint for health. Segmental fields of organisation appear during our embryological development, which orchestrate the growth, development and healing of all the tissues that grow within those segments. These fields of organisation continue throughout our lives, maintaining and healing our form and function. Therefore, by working at the level of these ‘fluid fields’ it becomes possible to treat a wide variety of conditions at a deeper level of organisation. During this seminar we will explore these embryological expressions of health, as well as the impact of conditioning experiences that can occur throughout life. There will be ample time for table work, reflection and meditation.
Areas explored include:
- deepening into the wholistic shift; being a drop in the ocean of primary respiration.
- dynamics of conception and implantation; the inner cell body, outer cell body and connecting stalk.
- the branchial arches and their derivatives.
- embryological fluid fields of the head, face and throat and the formation of the face.
- relating to cranial bones, facial bones, cranial nerves and muscles via the embryological fluid fields.
- significance of the ‘social engagement system’ and polyvagal theory.
- embryological fluid fields of the spine.
- relating to vertebrae, spinal nerves, muscles, ligaments and viscera through fluid fields.
- facilitated segments revisited.
- natural fulcrums of the three embryological germ layers: the third ventricle, heart and umbilicus.
- working with embryological triads and the upper embryological triad of the sphenoid, occiput and atlas.
- our original blueprint for health; the perfection that lies at our core.
