FORMATIVE EMBODIMENT

WITH DR. JIM FEIL DC, RPT, BCST

THE NEXT STEP IN YOUR PRACTICE:

A POST GRADUATE COURSE OVER AN ONLINE WEEKEND AND THREE FOUR-DAY SEMINARS

  • Module 1 ONLINE: April 10th-11th 2021

  • Module 2: June 10th-13th 2021

  • Module 3: September 9th-12th 2021

  • Module 4: November 18th-21st 2021

Formative Embodiment (FE) is an integrative approach providing key yet under-appreciated elements of successful therapeutic practice. It was developed by Dr. Jim Feil based on influences from the ‘Formative Psychology’ of Stanley Keleman, Craniosacral Biodynamics, Polarity Therapy, Pre- and Perinatal Therapies and Focusing.

Module 1 in April will take place online so that you can attend from the comfort and safety of your own home. This can be attended without any further commitment to attend the whole course. The remaining modules are scheduled to take place in London in June, September and November, but should travel restrictions etc. still be in place further seminars may be moved to an online format.

Formative Embodiment has three main pillars:

  1. Formative process - starting with conception, this process actively continues throughout one's lifetime. The development of effective forms to survive and thrive is a priority for the organism. This formative impulse is at the heart of FE.
  2. Somatic orientation - there is no real understanding of our experience without direct listening to the body. FE evokes untapped bodily resources, organized around homeostasis, to support healing and competencies in life.
  3. Energetic foundation - the human being is powered by an energy circuitry. This has been mapped in several ancient traditions and has its modern version in quantum science. Energy is the body's currency, and vitality is its great joy.

This (r)evolutionary course is being offered for the first time in the UK and is designed to enhance your skills by providing:

  • A simple, yet operative understanding of how brain and body work together, creating our foundational, orienting memories and internal body maps.
  • An acknowledgement of the centrality of action and behaviour in structuring our lives, taking into consideration our biology, genetic inheritance, survival needs, social and cultural contexts, and our personal goals, desires and dreams.
  • Tools to equip practitioners and clients with skills, forms and behaviours to competently and satisfactorily handle critical life situations.
  • An effective language, both verbal and somatic, that helps to access our deeper life processes.
  • A path to coherent embodiment.

Module 1 Outline:

This online seminar on April 10th-11th will explore story telling and the art of story listening, one of the most common and necessary activities of human beings. Story telling creates and preserves meaning for us in all situations – whether we are talking to friends and family, making a case to business associates or to potential clients, or whether a client is discussing their issues with a therapist. Ultimately, we are also telling our stories to ourselves. A story is a blend of memory, images, desires and intentions with action, including elements such as intensity of arousal, excitement, feeling, impulse and instinct. It can be a trauma story, a story of hope, a love or hate story, a story of success or repetitive failure, among many possibilities. Stories construct a reality and reveal more about us than about any objective truth. They are often about what we feel has gone wrong, and what we want to change. This is where the art of story listening enters the scene. How a listener listens, what he or she listens for, and how he or she responds, can help open up deeper layers and unconscious elements that the teller is not aware of.

This module will create some foundations for the practice of Formative Embodiment, providing principles and skills of story listening based on a somatic and formative methodology. Attention to the enactment of the story, with a focus on gesture and movement, as well as story content and its emotional implications, will be an important part of the approach. The seminar will also provide opportunities for therapists to examine their own personal style of listening.
